The appointment sequence
- Confirm the consular path.Discuss petition status and the correct next step with your immigration counsel or petitioner.
- Complete the DS-160.Submit the online nonimmigrant visa application and retain its confirmation page. Department of State guidance says petition-based applicants should have a copy of Form I-129 available while completing it.
- Create or use the official appointment profile.Follow the instructions for the U.S. embassy or consulate where you will apply. Enter information exactly as required.
- Pay the required application fee.Use only the methods and instructions shown by the official service and retain the receipt details.
- Schedule the appointment offered to your case. The location-specific system determines the available date, place and appointment components.
- Prepare for attendance.Review the consulate’s latest document and security instructions and carry the required originals and confirmations.
What should be ready before booking?
Check the validity and name details against your application.
Every applicant needs their own submitted application confirmation.
Keep the approved petition receipt number or Form I-797 details ready.
Retain the payment receipt or reference required by the appointment service.
This is a planning list, not a complete legal document checklist. The embassy or consulate’s instructions and your case circumstances control what you must bring.
Where should an O-1 applicant schedule?
Department of State guidance updated 15 July 2026 says nonimmigrant visa applicants should schedule in their country of nationality or residence. Applying elsewhere can be harder and can involve longer waits. Follow the location-specific appointment instructions; a city preference entered on this site does not determine where you are eligible to apply.
If you already have an appointment
Do not cancel a usable appointment merely because someone reports an earlier slot. First review the official system’s current rescheduling limits and confirm that a replacement date is actually selectable for your profile. An observation by another applicant is not a reservation for you.
